This transmission has a common problem with the valve body wearing out causing  many different reverse symptoms ( no reverse, harsh reverse or reverse slipping ). I recommend replacing the valve body from the dealer on every rebuild.

AW55-50SN

The transmission above is a front wheel drive 5 speed automatic transmission. They are computer controlled.  Common symptoms are transmission shifting erratic, harsh or erratic reverse. Also the check engine light can come on.

External sensors like the throttle position sensor, vehicle speed sensor, inhibitor switch can go bad, causing these symptoms. Always run a self diagnostic check first to see if a sensor is causing your problem. This transmission has severe valve body wear, along with common solenoid problems, the shift solenoids that attach to the valve body, sometimes they can go bad between 65.000 and 100.000 miles. I have found that many times the only fix for some of the valve body problems is to purchase one from the dealership. sorry cause they are expensive.

4T65E

The transmissions above are 4 speed automatics that are computer controlled.  The most common problems are: Your check engine light comes on. The transmission starts shifting erratically or not at all. 

Make sure you or a shop runs a scanner on the vehicle.  You want to see if a sensor has gone bad causing your problem.  Always check your modulator line on the 4T60E transmission to see if there is fluid inside. If fluid is inside the line, then the modulator is no good. Always replace the EPC solenoid when rebuilding a 4T65E.
